Hotel linen replacement should be controlled by condition and service standards rather than an arbitrary calendar date. Towels and bedding experience different wear depending on occupancy, laundry chemistry, processing temperatures, drying, handling and guest use.
Track condition, not only age
Replacement decisions should consider thinning, loss of absorbency, permanent staining, fraying, seam failure, dimensional change, loss of whiteness, pilling and presentation standards.
Separate retirement from replenishment
When an item is removed from service, the operating PAR level falls unless replacement stock is available. Properties should therefore define a replenishment trigger before shortages occur.
Standardise specifications
Replacement is easier when each item has a controlled product specification covering size, fibre, GSM or thread count where relevant, colour and approved substitute.
Use laundry data
Hotels should review reject rates, stain frequency and repeated rewash requirements. Rising rejects can indicate product wear, process issues or both.
