BBC Hospitality Linen Specification Benchmark 2026
A practical benchmark for hospitality linen specifications
The BBC Hospitality Linen Specification Benchmark is a structured framework for comparing hospitality textile specifications consistently. It is designed to help hotels, lodges, spas and procurement teams assess whether a linen specification contains the operational information required for informed buying.
This first 2026 release is a methodology and benchmark framework, not a statistical market survey. BBC will only publish numerical market findings where the underlying dataset and methodology can be disclosed.
The ten benchmark dimensions
- Product identity: clear product and range name.
- Fibre composition: explicit material percentages where available.
- Dimensions: finished size rather than vague size labels alone.
- Weight or construction: GSM, thread count, weave or other relevant measure.
- Care requirements: washing, drying and finishing guidance.
- Commercial-use suitability: intended hospitality, spa or guest-room use.
- Branding/customisation: whether embroidery, monograms or sizing changes are supported.
- Availability and continuity: whether repeat-order supply is defined.
- Quantity planning: connection to PAR, room count or operating stock.
- Replacement control: approved alternatives and replenishment process.
How to use the benchmark
A stronger specification covers more of these dimensions with explicit, verifiable information. The framework is not intended to declare one fibre, GSM or thread count universally superior; suitability depends on the property and operating model.
Why BBC is publishing this
Hospitality procurement is easier to control when suppliers and buyers use the same specification language. BBC uses this framework to structure product comparisons, procurement discussions and future research.
